About Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast runs along the southern side of the Sorrento Peninsula, south of Naples. A narrow road links its towns, which are built into steep cliffs above the sea. Positano is the most photographed, Amalfi has the cathedral and harbour, and Ravello sits high above with villa gardens such as Villa Rufolo.

Trips here suit those who like views, walking and long lunches. Most visitors stay in one town or in Sorrento and get around by ferry and bus. Longer stays add the Path of the Gods hike and quieter villages like Atrani.

Is Positano walkable?

Yes, but it is very steep with lots of steps. There is a small local bus up the hill.

Can I see the Amalfi Coast on a cruise day from Naples?

Yes, but it is a long day. Most people book a tour or a private driver so they are sure to get back to the ship.

Villa Rufolo or Villa Cimbrone?

Villa Rufolo is smaller and right by the main square. Villa Cimbrone is a 15-minute walk away and has the famous Terrace of Infinity. Many people do both.
