Gardens of Augustus

The Gardens of Augustus were laid out in the early 1900s by the German industrialist Friedrich Krupp. The terraces look straight down onto the Faraglioni sea stacks and the zigzag path of Via Krupp. Via Krupp itself is often closed because of the risk of falling rocks.

Early morning, before day-trippers arrive on the ferries.
Getting there
About 10 minutes on foot from the Piazzetta in Capri town. From Naples, the fast ferry takes about 50 minutes, then the funicular up from Marina Grande.

Is Via Krupp open?

It opens and closes depending on rock safety checks, so it is often shut. You can still see it from the gardens.

Are the Gardens of Augustus worth it?

Yes. The fee is small and the view of the Faraglioni is one of the best on the island.

Can I walk from the gardens to Marina Piccola?

Only when Via Krupp is open. Otherwise take the bus from Capri town.
