- An entrance fee is charged, per vehicle or per person, and the pass lasts seven days. Cards only, no cash; check nps.gov for current rates.
- Time needed
- Half a day for the film and tour road; a full day to add the USS Cairo Museum, the cemetery and a licensed guide.
- Best time
- October to April. Summers are very hot and humid, so go early in the day from June to September.
- Getting there
- The entrance is on Clay Street just off I-20 at exit 4B. Jackson, MS airport is about 50 miles east, roughly 50 minutes by car.

Vicksburg National Military Park questions
When is the park open?
The tour road is open daily 8:30 am to 5 pm, with last vehicle entry at 4:40 pm. The visitor center is open Wednesday to Sunday, and the USS Cairo Museum is open daily, both 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Is any of the tour road closed?
In 2026 restoration work at the Illinois Memorial closed a short stretch near the Shirley House and the Third Louisiana Redan, and other road and cemetery repairs have had short closures. See the alerts on nps.gov before you go.
Can I hire a guide at Vicksburg?
Yes. Licensed battlefield guides ride in your car and can be booked through the park. The NPS app and a CD tour sold in the bookstore are self-guided options.
