Gettysburg National Military Park: when to go, how long to spend, and where to stay

Good to know

Tickets: The battlefield and cemetery are free. The film, Cyclorama and museum need a timed ticket from the Gettysburg Foundation; check their site for current prices.
Time needed: One full day for the museum and auto tour; two days to add walks, a guided tour and the Eisenhower farm.
Best time: April to June or September to October. The July 1 to 3 anniversary is busy but has special programs.
Getting there: The park surrounds the town of Gettysburg. Harrisburg airport is about 1 hour away, and Baltimore and Washington, DC airports about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Should I hire a guide at Gettysburg?

A Licensed Battlefield Guide rides in your car for about two hours and brings the battle to life. Book ahead at the visitor center, especially in summer and on weekends.

Is Little Round Top open?

Yes. It reopened in June 2024 after a two-year rehabilitation with new trails, better parking and more accessible paths.

Can I visit the Eisenhower farm too?

Yes. Eisenhower National Historic Site is next to the battlefield and is reached by shuttle from the Museum and Visitor Center, with tickets sold there.
