Which rim of the Black Canyon should I visit?
The South Rim has the visitor center and most overlooks. The North Rim is more remote, with a gravel road that closes in winter.
Can you hike to the bottom of the Black Canyon?
Only by steep, unmaintained routes that need a free wilderness permit. They are for fit, experienced hikers.
Can I drive to the river?
Yes. East Portal Road drops to the river from the South Rim, but it is very steep, closes in winter and bans vehicles over 22 feet.
