An 8.5-mile foot trail around the waterfalls of the Pigeon River, used by Anishinaabe people and fur traders to reach the interior waterways.
Is Grand Portage National Monument open in winter?
The heritage center has reduced hours, but the historic depot buildings are closed outside summer. Check nps.gov before you go.
What else is near Grand Portage?
Grand Portage State Park, with Minnesota's tallest waterfall, is about 10 minutes away. Isle Royale ferries also leave from Grand Portage.
