- The park charges an entry fee per vehicle, covered by the America the Beautiful pass. Check nps.gov for current rates.

- 2 to 3 days to cover the Chisos Mountains, the river canyons and the scenic drive.

- November to April. Summer is extremely hot in the desert areas.
- Getting there
- Terlingua is just outside the west entrance. Midland International Airport is about 4 hours away by car; El Paso is about 5 hours.

Big Bend National Park questions
Is the Chisos Basin open?
Yes. A planned lodge rebuild that would have closed the basin was cancelled in 2026, so the basin, lodge and trails remain open.
What are the best hikes in Big Bend?
The Lost Mine Trail, the Window Trail and Santa Elena Canyon are the most popular. The South Rim is a long, rewarding day hike.
Where should I stay near Big Bend?
Inside the park, the Chisos Mountains Lodge is the only hotel. Otherwise stay in Terlingua or Study Butte just outside the park.
