The itinerary explores Old Delhi's historic core and New Delhi's planned avenues across four days. It begins with the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, shifts to India Gate and the National Museum, continues to Humayun's Tomb and Lodhi Gardens, then returns to Old Delhi for markets and a gurdwara. This sequence moves from an initial survey of the old city to the new capital before circling back for deeper exploration of northern neighborhoods.
Four days covers the main sites if you move efficiently each morning. Use the metro between Old Delhi and central areas to save time.
Book Red Fort tickets online the day before to skip the counters. Foreign visitors pay a much higher fee than Indian citizens, so check the current ASI price when you book.
It is about 3 km, so a taxi or auto-rickshaw takes 10 to 15 minutes. By metro, ride to JLN Stadium or Hazrat Nizamuddin and take a short auto-rickshaw ride the rest of the way.
Visit Khari Baoli between 10am and 1pm on weekdays to avoid crowds. Carry small cash for purchases and wear a mask for the strong smells.
