About Bayeux

Bayeux is a small medieval town in Normandy, a few miles inland from the Channel coast. Its old center is compact and walkable, with half-timbered houses, a mill stream, and the Norman Gothic Bayeux Cathedral rising above the rooftops.

The Bayeux Tapestry, an 11th-century embroidery of the Norman Conquest of England, is the town's main draw. Bayeux was also the first town liberated after the 1944 landings, and it makes a practical base for Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, and the other D-Day sites along the coast.
